Financing your Studies

As a private university, ISM is financed exclusively through tuition fees. As a non-profit organization, these fees are used to continuously improve the quality of teaching or to invest in equipment. Studying at ISM is a worthwhile investment due to its practical content, integrated internships and international experience. Whether scholarships, student loans, BAf?G or education funds: Future students have various options for financing their studies at ISM.

Scholarship for students affected by the war in Ukraine

The ISM takes part in an aid program with budget resources from DAAD STIPET (DAAD - German Academic Exchange Service) aimed at students affected by the war in Ukraine.


General requirements:

Students currently enrolled at ISM can apply for this scholarship. The scholarship grants financial aid of up to 934 Euro/month for 2023. Please note that a combination with the scholarships of Philipp Schwartz-Initiative of Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung is not possible.


Application period:

30. October - 17. November 2023 [for the winter semester 2023 (01.09.-31.12.2023)].

  • Motivation letter (200-300 words)
  • Current certificate of enrollment at ISM
  • Curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Copy of your residence permit, if available
  • Copy of passport page showing your personal details

ISM Education Fund

Study first, pay later: The Reverse Generation Contract (UGV) is an innovative model for financing studies. During your studies, you do not have to pay any or only a part of the tuition fees. After completing their studies, and only if they have reached a stable minimum income, those receiving support make an income-related contribution back to the ISM education fund. The amount of the repayments is linked to the income earned and thus to the personal ability to pay. These payments enable subsequent generations of ISM students to complete their studies without the burden of tuition fees. In this way, the "old" finance the studies of the "young". The ISM education fund is available to students from full-time programs.

ISM scholarships

ISM supports particularly committed applicants and students in order to enable as many suitable candidates as possible to study at ISM. In addition to a full scholarship from the 1st semester, partial scholarships (for a maximum of 1 year) are also awarded. In addition to need, very good scholastic or academic performance and commitment outside of the courses are expected. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of the scholarship regulations. The application can be submitted with a passed entrance test for the
summer semester from December 15 - January 15,
winter semester from June 15 - July 15.

High-achieving students in our dual Bachelor's programs, part-time Bachelor's and Master's programs, and MBA programs are also eligible for a 50 percent tuition waiver. Scholarships

There are various foundations where scholarships can be applied for. You can find information on scholarships and types of funding on the Internet: mystipendium.de, stipendiumplus.de, stipendienlotse.de.

In addition, there are numerous private foundations without denominational or party ties. To get an overview, we recommend a look at the website e-fellows.net.

Germany Scholarship

Of course, the ISM also participates in the nationwide Deutschlandstipendium. Particularly talented and high-achieving students are supported with 300 € per month. One half comes from the federal government, the other half is financed by companies, foundations or private individuals.

BAf?G

The ISM is fully recognized by the state, so you have the same entitlements as students at public universities - regardless of whether you are studying for a Bachelor's, Master's or MBA. Whether you receive funding from the state depends on your income & assets as well as those of your family. The Studierendenwerk Dortmund is responsible for you. Education loan

From the 5th Bachelor's semester and for Master's students, there is also the possibility of using the education loan. Students who are already advanced in their studies (from approx. 5th semester) receive so-called education loans from the BMBF at very favorable conditions, also for studying abroad.

Financing through internship/part-time job

ISM's study programs are structured in such a way that exams begin immediately after the last lectures. This means that our full-time students can switch to (paid) internships in a timely manner. However, there is no legal entitlement to internship pay. In a year, our students have the opportunity to do about 5 months of internship.
